Brand-name software is horribly expensive. I recently perused my local computer retail store, and was shocked to see Microsoft Office on “sale” for $499. Holy cow! Because I homeschool, we rely heavily on computers and educational software. I feel it is rather unfair that most retailers give discounts to public schools but refuse to offer discounts to homeschoolers. Not only do I have to support everyone else’s education (through property taxes), but I must pay again to educate my own children, and then pay extravagantly-priced retail prices on software.
Well, the good news is that there’s a “superhero” of sorts– CostCaptain.com! They offer excellent discounts on educational software for schools, colleges, AND homeschools. Hurray! Microsoft Office 2007 is %99 at CostCaptain! CostCaptain also has software from Adobe, Corel, and more, plus CostCaptain is a Microsoft Authorized Education Reseller, and they offer 100% Authentic Microsoft products at academic discounts (like Vista operating system upgrades and etc).

Thanks for sharing – one of the advantages to being a student. I am in my mid forties and still take a class at the local college to further my education, and it comes with the side benefit of being able to keep my software current by purchasing through academic resellers or obtaining through the college.
