WordPress 2.8.3

Well, they’ve updated it again! What is this, the third/fourth time in two/three months? It looks like this latest update addresses an unchecked security bug. An astute WordPress user alerted the WordPress geeks to the security leak, which was promptly fixed. It is advised that all WordPress users update immediately.

Unfortunately, I missed some places when fixing the privilege escalation issues for 2.8.1. Luckily, the entire WordPress community has our backs. Several folks in the community dug deeper and discovered areas that were overlooked. With their help, the remaining issues are fixed in 2.8.3. Since this is a security release, upgrading is highly recommended.

Thank God WordPress is easier to update. If I was still manually updating 7, 8 blogs everytime WordPress issued an update… well, let’s just say that Typepad would look a lot better! But I do love WordPress, I admit.

Glad I read this, I didn’t know it was a security issue so was waiting to read what others had to say. Did they fix the issues with writing and posting?

We’ve got a network of blogs and are still sitting at 2.7. The last time, from 2.6 to 2.7 we were in way too much of a hurry and the headaches it caused. So, thanks actually for the heads up about the latest in 2.8. We’ll get there, but after it’s been out for just a while longer :)

Jude, I am not sure. All the WordPress Dudes said was that this was a security release. I didn’t hunt around for more detail, but perhaps their explanations can be found in their Bug Log, somewhere on the WordPress.org site.

Hi Diane. WordPress has really improved it’s act since 2.7.1. It’s very easy to update now (but always backup your blogs first). I’ve always been one of those who waited a few months after an upgrade release, but I guess I’m feeling carefree these days. :D
