Well, after holding out for as long as possible, I finally updated to the latest WordPress for all my blogs. It was a chore, especially for 15 blogs, but not nearly as onerous as I remember “way back when” when I used to have to disable all plugins, upload the folders, reinstall them, and hold my breath praying it all worked!
I have created a few new websites and they use the latest WP version. After going back and forth between old and new, I decided just to update everything. 
Unfortunately, some of my handiest WP features are now gone (such as accessing Drafts from the dropdown menu). The new version is more awkward. But hey, it’s all way better than those stupid Facebook updates that roll out automatically.
