Everything But the…

… yeah, the kitchen sink. Actually, everything IS the kitchen sink here.

Sometimes it’s tough to find things online. I’m renovating my home and have been searching FOREVER for wallpaper stores online who sell a particular type of embossed wallpaper. And I don’t want to pay $50 per roll for it! I cannot BELIEVE that wallpaper would be more than FLOORING, for Pete’s sake….

Anyway, I’ve purchased my stove range hood online, my gas heaters online, etc etc. I even purchased my kitchen sink online! Yes, it’s possible! Sinks are actually a great product to buy online– many stores offer free shipping and delivery, which saves you money (as well as your back!). MR Direct is such a site. They specialize in offering beautiful and affordable kitchen sinks online. They also have faucets and other “sink” related products.

Always keep in mind the Internet when you are shopping. You can find phenomenal deals, and many times have the product delivered right to your door. Nice! :D

Finding a Home on the Internet

No no, not finding an Internet home! Rather, using the Internet to find your next home!

Back in the “olden” days (like, 10 years ago!), we used to have to rely on word of mouth or generous realtors to discover foreclosed homes. Realtors are usually not forthcoming about foreclosed homes, since these properties are usually sold at much lower prices, and the commission is smaller. I remember trying to locate some foreclosed homes when i was house-hunting, and it was nearly impossible to find anything.

But the Internet has changed everything. Now, you can go online and look for affordable housing options, and you can also search for Foreclosures online! Very cool! Search the website by location, price, bedrooms and baths, and more. Many listings have detailed information and/or photos, such as tax information, included appliances, and real state company contact information.

The Internet has made us all do-it-yourselfers! I am still amazed at how great a resource the Internet is!

Great Gardening Tips and Products

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of MyOrganicGardeningBlog.com. All opinions are 100% mine.

I once knew nothing about gardening. Yes! It’s true! But now, it’s one of my favorite hobbies. :) We’ve been in the process of building our property from a vast wasteland of weeds and ugly turf into a Victorian garden of flower beds, vegetable gardens, and herb gardens. It’s a long process, seeing we only have 4-5 months of growing season for the year here in Upstate New York. Plus, I had no idea what I was doing, early on. I discovered, to my chagrin, that some of my small shrubs are too close to the house or to each other in the beds. So while I am building new beds, I also have to correct the errors of the old ones.

I rely heavily on the Internet for gardening ideas and advice. And here’s a great site for organic gardening, too. It’s done by the folks who make the SaferBrand organic gardening and pest control products. I am getting “into” organic gardening (natural gardening– no genetically-modified anything, and only natural products for pest control). I hope to grow more and more produce in the near future. As a matter of fact, we are going to enlarge the garden next year, looks like.

If you are into gardening, you should definitely take a look at the organic gardening website. There are helpful articles for the new and experienced gardener. I liked this one, written by Julie Fryer: “Yard Debris is Not Garbage! Make it into New Soil by Composting.” And this article by Kay King, “Easy and Affordable Mini-Greenhouse,” is a quick how-to on how to make a small greenhouse! There are many other such tips you will find helpful. Plus, there’s a handy coupon code for SaferBrand products: get 20% off anything on the site with this code: SBSSMOGB . You can follow them on Twitter, too (I do) for tips and articles.

Don’t wander around helplessly in your empty, ugly yard any more! The Internet can help! Check out the organic gardening website– you will love it! :D

Looking for an Apartment? Try the Web!

Here’s some excellent news for you apartment hunters out there: check out the web for your new pad! I wish that this was available for me during all those apartment-hunting years when I was younger. It would have saved me a lot of inconvenience and time. Back then, we relied on classified ads or word of mouth to try to find a place. And if a landlord didn’t place an ad or didn’t get “mouths,” he had a difficult time finding tenants. Yes, it was SUCH a rough, cruel world back then, people! lol

Anyway, thanks to the web, you can find Luxury Apartments anywhere, all over the country, at the Luxury Apartment Shop. The website is excellent– I’ve been there a few times, checking out places for friends (plus, I like to keep tabs on the local real estate and apartment market in my state). Everything is at your fingertips and is very well organized. Search by city, state, or zip code, and get pages of results. Most listings have photos, detailed descriptions, a list of amenities, geographic location and address, contact information, and even floor plans (which I found fascinating). It’s excellent! And it’s totally free to search! There are listings for major cities and even small towns. I think it’s a very convenient way to find and compare listings in the country; they even have comprehensive Las Vegas Luxury Apartments listings, and a fancy New Lux ScoreĀ®. Landlords, this is a great way to get your luxury rental unit listed, too. See the website for listings and more details.

Optical Solutions

The Internet has done many amazing things, hasn’t it? We just finished our taxes, and I marvel at how quick and speedy the paperwork comes in with the process. Of course, it’s still painful to fill out those forms and cough up the $, but at least it’s speedy. :-p

One of the better things to come down the pike is the online shopping opportunities. I still don’t purchase clothing or shoes online, but we have bought some eyeglasses in past, from Zenni Optical. Clark Howard raves about Zenni. My husband got some glasses from them and they are very nice! And DIRT CHEAP. Zenni Optical crafts and ships the eyeglasses directly to the consumer– no expensive middle man!

We have five people in the family who wear glasses– those things add up! Mine alone cost upwards of $250. Zenni prices are exceptional. We can get new glasses for about $10!!!

There’s a great review at the Examiner about Zenni. I think the writer did a great job:

Zenni sells full prescription eyeglasses starting at just $8 per pair. Yes, that’s right, eight bucks. Talk about cheap prescription eyeglasses, huh? Their prices range up to around $40 and there is an extra charge if you want bifocals or thick lenses. They also charge extra for anti-glare coating (though it’s $4.95 extra as opposed to around $50-$100 extra elsewhere). Shipping is just $4.95 no matter how many pairs you order, so it pays to order for the whole family at one time.

It’s a good review, with good tips. I have yet to see an eye doctor (no insurance yet) to get my new prescription. Believe me, I’d much rather pay $20 for a pair of eyeglasses and do the measuring myself, than pay $250 for a slop job at the eye design place!! It IS possible to get quality eyewear for an inexpensive price.

Clark Howard: Major Retailers Ripping You Off

I got the following in my email from Clark Howard e-zine:

RIP-OFF ALERT: We’ve gotten several calls from listeners complaining about being ripped off while checking out at many otherwise legitimate Internet selling sites.

Typically, our callers report seeing a message during checkout asking if they’d like to save X amount of dollars on their purchase. Clicking through on the message and agreeing secretly enrolls you in a subscription service that is billed to your credit card or debit account on a monthly basis. And there’s no real notification — other than some mice-type that’s too small to read.

The Wall Street Journal reports New York Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo suspects 22 companies of being involved with this rip-off. Among the companies he’s subpoenaed are Staples, Barnes &Noble, Avon, GameStop, 1-800-Flowers and Orbitz, just to name a few.

No need, however, to wait and hear their side of the story. You know all you need: That supposed instant discount will cost you big-time. Cuomo alleges that three of these discount programs pulled in more than $1 billion annually.

The real question is how will trusted brands that take advantage of this suspect sales ploy gain their reputations back with customers??

You can read the full post here. The comments are really, really enlightening, I think. I had no idea that such reputable companies would do such STUPID things!

When checking out [at CVS], there is a ‘donate $1′ to some so called charity which is very difficult to say no and get this off my bill. If cvs wants to donate, don’t scam me and everyone else for all these dollars that add up to millions. It is quite a scam and has to be illegal. It is very difficult to remove this.

As you check out of VisionDirect, there is a checkbox already checked for coolsavings.com. i did not notice it and began getting charged a monthly fee immediately. I caught it five months later and contacted coolsavngs.com. They reimbursed me all except one month worth – I would have had to fill out some form. Just wanted to be done with the company. Complained to VisionDirect about this and to date no response. Will take my business to a competitor from now on, even if they charge a few dollars more.

In my case, the charges started to hit twice a month for around $33 (each) when I purchased an airline ticket from Travelocity.

I’ve been a victim of this for the past 7 months from freeshipping.com without knowing about it. My wife purchased flowers from Proflowers.com and was enrolled in this service, they make it seem like part of the checkout process so you have no idea what you are signing up for.

For a few pennies per customer, companies are ripping people off by allowing third-parties to scam customers. It’s just insane. Watch the fine print!
