Malware in New Gadgets!

laptop907-97

I saw this very informative video by Kim Komando, warning that new gadgets manufactured in other countries may contain malware that steals your banking information or spies on your activity.

I am totally flabbergasted. In a more honorable era, this kind of subtle sabotage would constitute declaration of war or AT LEAST close any open relations and trade with the offending country. Is the United States so lethargic that we don’t even care about this? It’s bad enough that our manufacturing is now shipped overseas– this is unbelievable!

What’s worse is that OUR OWN GOVERNMENT refuses to inform us of the offending countries and the names of the manufacturing companies, gadgets, and parts. This traps consumers, who have no idea what is safe to buy or not. And it prevents us from making our own little wave of resistance– I would most certainly ban a company or products made in a certain country of it contained malware, wouldn’t you? I think the government realizes this, and they realize the possible economic repercussions it could have on all their cushy little contracts and perks with other companies. So we are kept in the dark.

Can anyone say “fascism”?

For the Geek Extraordinare

stphaser

Got a hankering for geekery? I’ve got some great news for you– a super duper Geeky Gadget Website chock full of everything big and small under the sun. Some of the gadgets are really, really amazing! And others make excellent gifts. I mean, who WOULDN’T want a toe rocket toy or a toe door opener (that’s a very cool gadget, by the way) or a new iPad wall case or a cool new Star Trek movie replica Phaser? Every post features a photo, description of geeky gadgety item, and a way to purchase it. The site itself does not sell anything (not that I saw, anyway), but they feature the best of the best in geeky gadgets. Also, they do offer online coupons for any purchases you make, which is very nice. Not all coupons are for geeky gadgets. They’ve got Expedia coupons and Orbitz promotion codes, among other things. And, of course, they do have coupons for stores that sell the gadgets, too.

It’s a really neat site! Expect to spend a LOT of time there. I spent probably half an hour today (and I’ve been to the site before, too!) and I didn’t even scratch the surface of cool gadgets! Seriously, some of these things are very practical. I do love the toe door opener! And some of the other items make terrific gag gifts or serious holiday gifts. You don’t need to be a geek to enjoy the stuff there. Have fun!

The site is a terrific place to discover new gadgets. I spent nearly an hour there, perusing all the very nifty stuff there.

And not only do they feature gadgets and other neat items, but they also have tons of coupons and promo codes, especially the coveted Apple Store promo codes that are so difficult to find. There are also ThinkGeek coupons for the serious geek. and more.

Apple Sued Over Privacy Problems with Apps

stareye

And according to CNBC, Google may be next.

There are two separate groups initiating a class action suit, both in California, made up of iPhone and iPad users. They allege that apps for the devices are passing on user information to advertisers, without the consent of the users. The intent of the suits are to initiate a ban on such sharing, and getting financial compensation from Apple. In addition to Apple, Textplus4, Paper Toss, Weather Channel, Dictionary.com, Talking Tom Cat, and Pumpkin Maker are named in the suit. An investigation into Google’s Android phones may be next.

Personally, I’m all for the suits.

I’m sick and tired of arrogant companies who use consumers and our information like cattle. When we sign up to watch the weather or to play a game on a device, we should not have to give up our personal information. A deal is a deal.

Learning About the Magic Jack Gadget

mjusb

Sheesh, HOW many years have I puttered around with making a decision?? I’m still very undecided. I’m talking about the Magic Jack device. Actually, I’m generally talking about Voip (voice over Internet protocol). Yes, I am still at the mercy of my local telephone company– I still have the landline. And what an expensive venture it is! WHY oh why is phone service so expensive? And if we used it more often, it might even be somewhat worth it. But 85% of our telephone calls are either solicitations, wrong numbers, or calls for the people who had the number before we got it. It’s INSANE. The phone rings all day long, and it’s almost never for us! It’s getting to be quite the aggravation. I’m looking around at options.

I heard about the Magic Jack about a year ago now. I read very mixed reviews; some people said it worked well, others said their service was spotty. Either way, it’s very inexpensive. There’s a site called “Magic Jack Numbers” that seems to be devoting itself to everything you wanted to know about Magic Jack. I’ve been poring through the articles. I really haven’t found a whole lot of information about it– SOLID information, not sensational hype. I really don’t care if the device is “as seen on TV!” I want to know how it works, what the software looks like, about magic jack numbers, etc. I would really like to change my phone number to get rid of all the wrong and annoying calls; looks like I can with the numbers. I like the testimonies on the site– they are simple and very well-written. They also include screenshots of the Magic Jack software, and give a good idea of what to expect for the install process. I’d like to see even more articles added, such as a tutorial or video, or tips or whatever. You can also get phone service through the computer with the Magic Jack, too. Hmmm!

Anyway, if you have been wondering about the Magic Jack, check out the site. If you have a Magic Jack, please leave a comment! I’d like to know more about the device. Voip is becoming a very stiff competition for landline service (deservedly so, in my opinion), so I’m thinking of getting my feet wet very soon. I’ll have reviews to come. In the meantime, check the site or let me know your opinions.

Finding High Quality Video Cam Streaming

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of faceVsion Technology USA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Socialspark_productimage When I took my business trip to New York City, I used my netbook’s little webcam to talk to the kids. The kids, unfortunately, did not have a webcam, so I could not see them. I used my instant messenger software to connect… and UGH what a stuttering, slow connection it was! Not very pleasant. It was too bad. Next time I want to be prepared for a better experience.

There’s this new gadget called faceVsion out. It’s incredibly innovative–it’s High Definition (HD), and it’s the first HD video cam certified by Skype for making HD video calls. faceVision uses embedded hardware H.264 encoding. This chip helps to create a 720-pixel, high-quality image suitable for video-to-video communications. It’s great for businesses (such as video conferencing) but it’s also a wonderful tool for the commuting family. The camera is very high-quality, with a quickly focusing super wide angle lens. It certainly looks very high tech! The official name is the FV touchcam N1. It’s on sale at retailers (such as Amazon, Staples, and NewEgg) for a little over $100. I think that’s very affordable for such a high-quality webcam. It leaves the other webcams (like Logitech’s and Microsoft’s) in the dust.

Read more about it, see an informative video about the cam, and learn more about the FV ExpressCombo at the faceVision on line store.

Additionally, you can save some money right now! www.shop.facevsion.com is now running a back-to-school promotion with $10 off any purchase, using the promo code of FVTBTS2 at the checkout. The promotion ends September 30th, 2010, so don’t delay.
