What is Snapdragon Stadium?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Snapdragon by Qualcomm for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Don’t be alarmed when you suddenly turn on your TV this week and suddenly see that the Qualcomm Stadium is gone and the San Diego Chargers suddenly appear in “Snapdragon Stadium.” It’s all part of a plan. :) You’ll be hearing a little more about Snapdragon with the televised Poinsettia Bowl and the classic Holiday Bowl this holiday week.

The stadium is being temporarily renamed during the holiday season, to draw attention to the Snapdragon brand technology that makes your smartphone so smart. I think they are off on the right foot– “Snapdragon” is an extremely catchy moniker. But there’s much more to the name.

There is no denying that the smartphone and tablet PC has absolutely revolutionized computers. Are you aware of the incredible technology beneath those smartphone and tablet screens? Enter Snapdragon. Snapdragon processors by Qualcomm are the digital brains inside mobile devices made. Snapdragon is a wireless chip processor, used in more than 300 kinds of smartphones, including HTC phones and the Samsung Galaxy tablet. I LOVE my smartphone. Few people really know what powers their tiny electronics, and Snapdragon wants to let us know it’s their amazing technology that makes it all possible. Who knows, maybe in a year or two we’ll be seeing “Snapdragon inside” stickers on our smartphone boxes.

Snapdragon has plans to expand, with hundreds of more projects under development currently. I think they’ve done a pretty good job with the smartphones, don’t you think? The processing power of those tiny machines is truly stunning, and it blows my mind that it’s only getting better.

So, anyway, don’t be shocked to see Qualcomm Stadium with a new name. It’s only temporary. But Snapdragon is only just beginning.

Too Risky Without Norton Protection

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Norton Small Business by Symantec for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Got a small business? You know how expensive technology costs can be. I have a very small business in my home and it is extremely costly to purchase and maintain all the electronic office equipment here. It seems I need a new router every year and a new computer every few years. Yet without the machines, my business would be nothing. Technology costs are a TOP priority even for my tiny business– I know the costs must rise exponentially for small businesses with additional employees and activity.

According to Symantec, nearly 59 percent of small business owners had to deal with a malware problem. What a waste of money and productivity! Malware is an increasingly costly problem, and more than half of all businesses pay a technology expert to untangle the malware mess.

In such a case, an ounce of prevention is priceless compared to the cure. Smart businesses prevent technology problems with adequate protection, such as Norton Small Business by Symantec. Norton was the first technology security company that helped me as a new computer user, over a decade ago. Norton has a long history of helping personal and business users protect their equipment from malware and viruses- they’ve just released the Norton Internet Security 2012 suite and Norton 360 software. For a small business, identity theft, a crippling virus or wayward employees can devastate their budgets and reduce morale.

To protect your Small Business from the latest online threats, check out Norton products. The products are very user friendly, and Norton offers a 30 percent discount on their products for the small business owner (especially the generous 5 and 10 User products, perfect for a small office network). Norton gives unlimited phone support 24/7, will help you fix computer and network problems, and the Norton product line will help protect your system from viruses and other malware.

It’s much too risky to leave your small business technology unprotected. Definitely check out Norton’s special deals. Let me know what component you think is the most important, and why!

The Office Coffee Revolution

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Tassimo for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

The office environment can be pretty bland and utilitarian. Some people have this amazing knack at making even the dullest, dreariest cubicle a little cozier and friendlier, but when it comes to the snack room, that’s a different story. The office coffeepot is often the worst of all– crusty and old, producing overly strong cups of black, acidic coffee. Yuk. I used to work the early morning ahift at a radio station, and coffee was one of the office necessities. Unfortunately, the secretary didn’t think so, and was content making sludge every day. Ugh.

My, how times have changed. Employees are no longer at the mercy of the decrepit coffee maker. Have you heard of Tassimo Professional? It’s an amazing luxury coffeemaker that perks THE most delicious coffee-house style coffees, capuccinos, and lattes. You can set the Tassimo Pro brewer to make the perfect cup of java or hot chocolate or tea, one cup at a time! No more filling a huge coffee pot with the same old super-strong coffee that everyone hates.

There are a couple of additional advantages to the Tassimo Pro brewer. The machine takes special “t discs” with double bar codes that give you superior beverages with technological precision. The discs are available only for an office and not home use, so this prevents employees from “borrowing” office supplies to take home. The machine is easy to clean and maintain, too.

Check out the Tassimo Professional free demo to find out more about the Tassimo Pro brewer and sign up for a free office demo. I think the days of languishing over a cup of mud at the office are over. :)

Great Channels

Great Channels

Written by my friend Constance Hayden

There are so many great channels on my Direct TV but I really only watch one. Well, two if you count BRAVO but I only watch that one because they’ve got Top Chef! I love cooking shows more than your average person and so I spend a lot of time checking them out. I can’t believe how many there are on nowadays, either, but you know, my husband just enjoys the fact that I’m a much better cook than I used to be. I love that my daughter’s getting into cooking now, too, and it’s all because we watch food tv together on the weekends. She says that this year for THnaksgiving she wants to help me prepare the meal and that just warms my heart. To think…my little girl could be a chef someday! Anyway, I love her to death and I can’t wait until she’s old enough to hold a knife but for now she can help me put sprinkles on sugar cookies and things of that nature. Don’t want her burning herself or her hands!

Cloud Storage Is In: The Pros and Cons

cl097e

The latest buzz word in the technology industry is “the cloud.” It’s been around for several years. Basically, the “cloud” is online storage space on some server. Perhaps you’ve heard of Carbonite or iCloud? You can see a comprehensive list of both top US and Top UK cloud storage companies and pricing at the link. The “cloud” is merely online storage space. Think of it as a separate, external hard drive online. In the “olden” days, we stored our data, our photos, our documents and emails on our personal computers. The “cloud” allows you to store that data on an online server.

There are pros and cons to cloud storage, as you can imagine.

Pros:

  • Easy access to all your files online, from any computer.
  • You can share your files with others. Most cloud companies allow you to create “approved users,” so you can give Granny permission to access portions of your cloud data, too.
  • Cloud storage is a great backup for PC hard drive loss. Personal computer hard drives have become more reliable but the consumer products are much less reliable than the commercial drives that are kept in large, air-conditioned storage rooms.
  • Some cloud companies will automate backups for you. You can select the schedule for this process, such as every Monday at 3am. Of course, your computer must be on and connected to the Internet during this time.
  • If you have webmail or if you “sync” your web browser bookmarks between two computers, you are already using cloud storage. It can be very convenient!

Cons:

  • Most cloud storage costs money. You can go the cheap route, for example, and upload your documents to Gmail which gives users very generous storage space. But you will have to manually do this on a regular basis and attach it to emails, which is very inconvenient.
  • There is the possibility that cloud servers can be hacked. Most companies have very rigorous security measures and monitor their servers well, but we all know what a determined hacker can do….
  • To access your data, you must have an Internet connection. If you don’t keep any of your photos or documents on your PC but upload everything to the cloud, that data may be unavailable at time if you or your cloud server experiences downtime.
  • You can lose all your data from a natural disaster or a company bankruptcy.

The “cons” are rather far-fetched– what is the likelihood of a natural disaster striking YOUR server??– but you just never know. Still, for many people, the pros outweigh the cons, and many consumers seem to like having automated backups of their data and being able to access it anywhere. As a matter of fact, that has become the deciding factor for me. :)

Before you hop into the cloud fervor, weigh all your alternatives. Check prices and always check the company’s reputation and uptime guarantee.

Abuzz About Apple

982749821

I own several i-devices from Apple and have been absolutely thrilled with the latest software update, iOS 5. I’ve always been very wary of new updates, ever since 4.3 crashed on my iPhone and wiped out everything. EVERYTHING. It was pretty lousy. So I hadn’t updated from 4.3…. what was that, no updates for 3 weeks? :-p

Thus I am joining the ranks of the Apple bees, abuzz with news and my excitement about the new operating system. It comes on the wings of the death of Steve Jobs. Even though he had been sick for a long time, I think we were all shocked to turn on our i-devices and read the news that he had passed away. I remember him from way, way back. I still own the first personal MacIntosh computer from 1984. It was when I was just getting “into” computers and even considered some F5 training courses and all. I even have the old Mac mouse and keyboard and dot matrix and old floppies! It’s been in storage a long time, I’m not even sure it works anymore…

Anyway, I never went for the computer science degree nor any Cisco IronPort training courses, but I do still remain deeply interested in computer technology. Apple’s meteoric rise in the past ten years has really changed everything. Who knew the iPhone would revolutionize cell phones?!

I love the iPhone. I never thought I would want one, but after I hit that little button, I was hooked. It’s a terrific device. I am thrilled with iOS 5 and even more thrilled that my iPhone survived the transition! My favorite feature has got to be the new Notifications. The old way drove me nutty, I love the new one. Do you have an i-device? What do you like best about the new iOS 5, if you have it?
