Marketing Comes to Your Social Network

Imagine walking down a city street, and suddenly your iPhone buzzes. You look at it, and there’s a message from that restaurant– Mel’s Diner– further down the street, offering a 15% discount on lunch for people who visit within the next hour. Do you go? And how did they get that message to you?

Welcome to the new world of marketing via your social network. It’s one of the key projects of companies like Digital Development Partners, Inc (You can see their stock profile and performance at Market Watch). You see, there are now SO many products in the world, and SO many people…. the dilemma for the business has been how to get the word out? Mel at Mel’s Diner can’t possibly search Twitter and Facebook for every resident of his city, and befriend them and message them. Mel is a cook, not a twitterer! So he may hire a marketing company to sift through and manage the massive information.

This kind of marketing is very unique; it’s an in-your-face kind of marketing. What do you think? It’s great to get discounts, and you may even discover new products and services to benefit your own business or employment… but it’s an invasive form of marketing. Social networking is traditionally (if you can call 6 or 7 years of Facebook a “tradition”) reserved for friends and family communications. To have Mel intrude into your Twitter is a rude awakening for some.

It’s probably no surprise that the idea of Digital Development Partners was started by a college student at Western Carolina University, funded by a business, and won a contest for innovation and enterprise. The company’s brainchild is YuDeal.com (currently in beta), which turns social networking and global marketing on its head, as seen with the example of Mel and his Diner. What do you think of all this?

Remember, I’m a pro-blogger and I am sometimes compensated with stuff or money to review or mention products or services! This was one of them. :D You can read more about my blog policy on my About page.

Portable Offices

Need some portable office space? Here’s a company to keep in mind, with locations all across the United States: Acton Mobile Industries, based in Baltimore, Maryland. They have locations in Jackson, Austin, Philadelphia, Chicago, Ft. Myers, and even a nice Tampa mobile office available! Acton Mobile Industries is one of the leaders in the field, providing short-term, quality office solutions. This is a great solution for those of us who have businesses or home offices under construction (like my home office and home will be, soon!). The selections are amazing– 8′ to 14′ trailers are available, as well as multi-sectionals, and more. Trailers can come with very nice features, such as security system packages, heat and/or air conditioning, built-in desks and plan tables, restrooms (yes!!), and handicapped ramps. Check out the website if you’re in need of some safe, clean portable office space.

Promote Your Stuff

Wow, this has got to be the largest Promotional Gifts website of promotional products I’ve ever seen. They have everything under the sun! Calculators, t-shirts, clothing, mugs, key chains, tools, clocks– everything! It’s AnyPromo.com. They have over 200,000 products that you can customize for your business, school, organization, contest, conference, or for personal use. Some of the stuff is especially fun (I like whimsical items). For example, how about some unique, color-flashing, lit-up mugs, possibly to promote your restaurant? The kids would love them! Or how about a pen cup with an alarm clock and thermometer? Or a wooden handheld mirror, or a tournament pack golf ball set, or some baseball caps? The amount of products is really overwhelming! Promotional products are a great way to promote your organization or company, and to get your logo and name out there. Also, a lot of these items would make really great gifts! Everything can be personally customized with your own logo or design. The prices are excellent, too– that nice pen cup with an alarm clock and thermometer that I saw is under $6 with a minumum purchase of 25 count. Promote your business, your school, your conference or event, or just yourself! Check out the website for more details: AnyPromo.com.

Finding Local Services Online

Gotta love the Internet! It’s not only a vast communication and entertainment portal, it’s a huge virtual Yellow Pages. I have thrown all my phone books away (except for one I use in case the computer isn’t working) and rarely use them anymore. I’ve got the Internet! How about you? Do you use the Internet to search for local services? A well-built website has much more information about a business than a small ad in the phone book or newspaper– and small and local businesses are getting online more and more. It’s so much easier to find and support local businesses with the Net.

How about this: College Pro Painters. They are a North American painting company, made up of college students, who are very happy to do all that back-breaking house painting for you. This particular franchise is based out of Seattle, WA, but College Pro Painters has operations in 29 states! The Seattle group has built a really impressive website, and are getting the word out about their services via the Internet; they have a very informative blog about what they do and how they got started. You can search the site for locations and contact information, and watch some videos about the College Pro Painters. This organization is very active in charitable work, too, and College Pro Painters offers student franchise opportunities and a painter scholarship program– the website has all the details. This is a great website to bookmark and pass along!

Got a business, big or small, and need some open source software management materials? Here’s a bug in your ear: Bluenog. Business websites are often much more complex and very much more dynamic than static websites. There is so much going on all the time with such dynamic needs and applications that businesses have to hire an IT team to keep up with the business’ online needs.

Bluenog has some excellent solutions for making software management easy. It’s open source, too. Some of the products Bluenog offers:

  • Bluenog ICE
  • Bluenog CMS
  • Bluenog BMI
  • Bluenog Rich Portal

Amongst other things, Bluenog’s management software allows your business to:

  • Allow “non-tech” users to manage the software system with Bluenog’s intuitive interfaces.
  • Access and restrict content.
  • Remove old data very easily.
  • Customize web pages.
  • Centralize data access by developing a “hub.”

There are a number of very informative videos about the various Bluenog products, all of which look excellent. The Bluenog ICE is no doubt extremely popular since it is very flexible, fully customizable, and intuitive to even the most untrained software database user. I was impressed with its capabilities and extreme flexibility for any need.

So if you are looking for some excellent, affordable software managment choices for your business, take a peek at what Bluenog has to offer. Bluenog is dedicated to helping you choose and understand your business’ online needs, and the customer support personnel are available to answer your questions.
