Abuzz About Apple

982749821

I own several i-devices from Apple and have been absolutely thrilled with the latest software update, iOS 5. I’ve always been very wary of new updates, ever since 4.3 crashed on my iPhone and wiped out everything. EVERYTHING. It was pretty lousy. So I hadn’t updated from 4.3…. what was that, no updates for 3 weeks? :-p

Thus I am joining the ranks of the Apple bees, abuzz with news and my excitement about the new operating system. It comes on the wings of the death of Steve Jobs. Even though he had been sick for a long time, I think we were all shocked to turn on our i-devices and read the news that he had passed away. I remember him from way, way back. I still own the first personal MacIntosh computer from 1984. It was when I was just getting “into” computers and even considered some F5 training courses and all. I even have the old Mac mouse and keyboard and dot matrix and old floppies! It’s been in storage a long time, I’m not even sure it works anymore…

Anyway, I never went for the computer science degree nor any Cisco IronPort training courses, but I do still remain deeply interested in computer technology. Apple’s meteoric rise in the past ten years has really changed everything. Who knew the iPhone would revolutionize cell phones?!

I love the iPhone. I never thought I would want one, but after I hit that little button, I was hooked. It’s a terrific device. I am thrilled with iOS 5 and even more thrilled that my iPhone survived the transition! My favorite feature has got to be the new Notifications. The old way drove me nutty, I love the new one. Do you have an i-device? What do you like best about the new iOS 5, if you have it?

Surprise! The $1,000 Cell Phone Bill!

straight_

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Straight Talk for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

I’ve heard plenty of horror stories, but thank God it hasn’t happened to me! You know the stories– the parents open their cell phone bill to discover that their teenager has racked up $1000 in charges for this or that little thing.

Oh, and there are also the horror stories about from folks describing horrible service from the “big box” carriers, enslaved by technical and lengthy contracts, high fees, credit checks and the like. What is it with some cell phone carriers, who treat customers like serfs? JUST so we can have a smartphone?? There has got to be another choice.

Well, times are a-changing. Enter Straight Talk. I am impressed with this company! No contracts, no ball-and-chain slavery, no exorbitant fees. Everything is, well, STRAIGHT. The costs for the phone service are upfront: the basic unlimited monthly service is $45. It includes calls, texting, picture texting and web browsing! Straight Talk has other plans, too, to suit everything you need.

The best part about Straight Talk is the phone selection. I’ve had “no contract” phone service before, and while the phone service is good, the phones were not. Straight Talk realizes that some folks don’t want the 80′s-style phones. Straight Talk has smartphones, touchscreen phones, app phones and text messaging phones! I’m pretty impressed. I now see how easy it is to fall for Straight Talk Hook, line and sinker. Check out the testimony of a real Straight Talk customer for more evidence.

Recycling Old Cell Phones

savecellll

Now that our house renovation is (mostly) completed, we’re trying to get our life back after the major upheaval. We still have boxes and boxes of stuff. I was stunned to see ALL the stuff we have stored. One box had 4 old cell phones! They are out of date and useless now…. but I didn’t know what to do with them at the time, so I threw them in a box, only to be unearthed now.

Cell phones should not go in the regular garbage. Like computers, cell phones contain chemicals and other materials that do not belong in a landfill. Moreover, like computers, cell phones carry sensitive information– contacts, calendar notes, etc. So WHAT do we do with old cell phones? What kind of cell phone recycling is available for perfectly good phones in working condition?

sellcell.com is a website devoted to recycling your cell phone. Only thing is, you don’t throw it away, but sell it to someone who wants a phone. SellCell.com has been successful in the UK, and they are coming soon to the United States. On the UK site, you search for your phone model, so that you can list it on the site for sale (listing it is free). SellCell will connect you with interested buyers. It’s a great way to provide someone else the opportunity to get a used phone for a good price. And it’s a great way to earn a little money AND perhaps find a new phone. Check out the site for details. SellCell.com also has a blog with information about recycling the phone (including an important tip about removing the SIM card before recycling the phone). This is a terrific way to get rid of the old cell phone! I’m going to see if I can list my phones. They are so old, I don’t know if they will even be on the list…. but then again, maybe an antique dealer will want the old dinosaurs ;)

A Perfect Phone for Music Media Lovers

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of LG Chocolate Touch. All opinions are 100% mine.

Cell phones are traditionally meant, well, for phone activity! All the extra tweaks and perks of a phone, such as camera, mp3 player, video recorder, and etc, are peripheral inclusions. Verizon has decided to change that, with their beautiful LG Chocolate Touch. It’s a sleek, lovely design; the phone is a phone, yes; but it’s designed for the media loving, social networking, music listening person. Verizon has really outdone themselves with the LG Chocolate, and left the competition in the dust! I saw the phone at Best Buy, and it is gorgeous. The music quality is superb. The LG Chocolate Touch is receiving high ratings for it’s Dolby Mobile technology. It has some really, really sweet perks:

  • Send and receive calls and texts just like any phone, but the LG Touch is geared for social networking: it has a One touch “Social Network Message Key” for easy blogging on the go, to Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and more.
  • It provides “Mobile Media,” which is very high-quality visual (photo and video) and audio voice and text messaging, with Visual voicemail.
  • The camera, a 3.2 megapixel, takes very clear photos and videos. The LG includes an image editor, too.
  • There are numerous visual effects, and the LG handset will vibrate to the beat of the music playing!
  • It is the Dolby Mobile technology that makes the LG Chocolate Touch really stand out– the audio is crystal-clear, very nice!
  • The screen is very responsive. That’s a nice change from some of the others I’ve seen, where you have to hammer on the screen to get it to do anything!

The phone is a music-lover’s, social media fan’s dream come true. It is so much easier to have in one small gadget everything you need for phoning, texting, listening to music, AND mobile blogging. I’ve read some reviews by C|Net and PC World, and they give the LG Chocolate Touch great ratings. It is a beautiful phone, and the audio quality is incredible. Check out the website for more details about the phone.

The Beautiful New LG Touch

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of LG Chocolate Touch. All opinions are 100% mine.

I got to take a peek at the new LG Chocolate Touch over the weekend, at my local electronics store. I’d been hearing about it a lot, and was curious. (It was probably the word “chocolate” that got my attention!). It’s beautiful.

lg-chocolate-touch

I currently have TracFone for cell phone service. Yes! I’m an old curmudgeon with cells. I got it a few years ago before I got my WAHM job, and when the kids were smaller. Our needs have changed. For one, the girls and I are always sharing the phone. :S So if they go out somewhere, I’m without a cell, and vice versa. I’ve been shopping around for cell phones and prices. The LG Chocolate is just beautiful– it’s issued by Verizon Wireless (we already subscribe to them for phone and DSL), so it’s with a company I’m familiar with. The LG is a nice, nice cell. But it’s got more to it than making and receiving texts and calls.

These days, we expect a cell phone to do more. The LG Chocolate Touch does MUCH more:

  • It’s got Dolby Mobile, with an equalizer and incredibly rich audio features. So playing mp3s is something akin to a “live” performance.
  • It gives 1GB of internal memory, with an expandable capacity for 16 more GB. Yow!
  • It can automatically download the songs you like from listening to the FM radio!
  • It has “Rhythmical Beat” that will vibrate with the song that’s playing. You can even play along with virtual drums, etc. LOL
  • It is fully prepared for social media networking with a Social Network Message Key.
  • And that’s all besides the other stuff you can do: texting, social media networking, take photos, make calls, etc etc.

It’s a sweet gadget. Check out the website for the LG Chocolate Touch.

Use the Computer To Find Your Cell Phone

Lost your cell phone? Dagnabbit, those things are so easy to lose! Well, you could always give the Department of Homeland Security (heil!) a buzz to see if they can locate it (smirk), but here’s a less invasive way: WheresMyCellPhone.com. What a cool invention! It’s free to use– just type in your cell phone number and the software will cause your phone to ring. And *hopefully* your phone is nearby and will hear it ring. But if you suddenly get a call from the Sewage Wastewater Treatment Plant, it means that Junior has flushed another phone down the john….

P.S. NOT a paid post! Are you happy, Google and the FTC??
