Winners of the iLasik Contest

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Incendia Health. All opinions are 100% mine.

A few months ago, I mentioned a very nice contest called the “You Gotta See This” iLASIK Video Contest. It was by Abbott Medical Optics Inc. (AMO), a Lasik vision correction company. The prizes were spectacular. Entrants had to create videos showing how Lasik laser surgery had changed their lives. The Grand Prize was for $5000!

The winners have been announced. The winner of the $5000 Grand Prize is Alex, and you can see his winning video here– he made a music video. The other video winners *look* good (pun intended!), too! I love some of the creative titles: Contacts Stink, Orbs of Perfection, Foggy Riding, and others. They are very creative videos, too. We cracked up over the “iLASIK Would Make Surfing More Enjoyable” video, lol! And Robbo got First Prize, which was an HDTV package valued at $2500. Sweet. Here is the video, lol.

Sheesh, I wish I had entered! I love video contests! :(

Well congrats to the winners! You can *see* the winners and their videos at the iLASIK Video Contest website, where you can learn more about the benefits of laser surgery, how the surgery is done, safety questions, and more; and you can also register to get eye care products and updates.

Stunning Sony Technology Meets Twilight Football

Well, here I was today, blogging about South Africa, the World Cup, and technology, and look what I found: Sony Twilight Football! It’s a worldwide event where countries around the world will be participating in “football” (In the United States, we call it soccer; other countries call it football) games held at twilight, around the world. It’s hosted by non other than Sony, that company extraordinaire when it comes to photography and technology. I’ve long wanted an illustrious Sony camcorder because of Sony’s superior low-light capabilities, and here’s a great chance to see what Sony has to offer.

The event will take place on September 22, 2009. Seven twilight football games are planned, all to be held in the most beautiful locations: IguazĂș Falls, Argentina; Tintagel, UK; Pinnacle Desert, Australia; Antequera, Spain; Venice, Italy; the gorgeous Alps at the border of France; and the finale will be at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa! Wow, it’s going to be spectacular viewing. Here’s a video with a preview of the fun to come (those soccer guys are such clowns! Is this what they call “Dodge Bull”? *snort*):

Yeaaaaah. If you had asked me initially who I thought would have won this practice game, I’d have said the bull. But after watching the entire video, aren’t these guys AMAZING?!

I’m looking forward to catching a few of the matches and seeing how the Sony equipment performs in the low-light, super-high-action conditions (not to mention maybe they’ll have the bull do a little show). The photos on the Twilight Football website are beautiful. It’s a real inspiration, definitely. It’s great that they are putting emphasis on the beautiful surroundings and on the ability of players to work as a team– that’s why I like soccer so much. (That, and I was QUITE the soccer player as a kid). Check out the website– Twilight Football– for viewing information and schedules.

Understanding Wireless Networks

We are getting so sophisticated with Internet today, aren’t we? Wasn’t it just a couple of years ago that the dialup was sufficient for moderate surfing and email?

Those days a LONG GONE. Now there’s DSL broadband, cable, satellite, and FiOs (which I hope to get someday). I work from my computer, and we play and get our news and information from the computer. It took me a good year or so to really understand the basic behind DSL routers, modems, gateway, WiFi, and WiFi security. And what makes it worse is that omce you’ve got it figured out, the technology advances and you have to learn things again.

Here’s a very good, basic video by NetGear about wireless capability. I loved it! I recently got a NetGear Wireless N capable gateway router, but I admit, the claim to spee dleft me puzzled… because none of my computers are Wireless N compatible (so far). This is a great instructional video for any of you who are wondering about all this wireless stuff. Kudos to NetGear for making such a great video!

Good and Cheap Fitness DVDs

I am old enough to remember that old fitness video Jane Fonda made, back in the 80′s. Do you remember it? Remember the “leg warmers” fad? Ha ha! Yes, we’ve come a long way, baby. When they started to come out, the fitness video really rocked the fitness world, especially for the average person. Thanks to technology, we didn’t have to pay the big bucks for a personal trainer or expensive memberships at the clubs– we could now have our own personal fitness trainer at home, for under $100 (by purchasing the player and video)! I always preferred the aerobic workout videos and DVDs to get and stay in shape. I never liked jogging around the block in my neighborhood because doing so was too painful for my joints, and I hated encountering all the dogs, fast cars, and inclement weather. It is SO much easier to pop in a DVD and follow instructions than to strap on the uncomfortable sneakers and get chased by the neighborhood dogs outside…

And getting and staying fit does NOT have to cost you an arm and a leg (haha! so to speak). There’s a great online store that sells very inexpensive fitness DVDs– all the major “brands,” too! It’s iNetVideo; check out their specialized Fitness DVD Section. They have quite the collection of the most popular fitness DVDs: Kathy Smith, Denise Austin, Leisa Hart, Leslie Sansone, Tony Little, Billy Blank, Cardio Cheer, special pregnancy workout videos, and more. DVDs start from $2, with many singles selling for $5 and DVD boxsets selling for under $20! For orders over $25, iNetVideo offers 15% off the shipping rate for your order.

I’ve been browsing iNetVideo for other DVDs, too. We’re always hunting around for educational movies and documentaries at cheap prices, and iNetVideo has some outstanding prices. They also sell HD DVDs, Blu-Rays, DVDs, games, and music. They have a very nice selection, and the prices are great. Check it out!

The Tote Bag Olympics

Businesses are discovering the amazing utility of YouTube (plus, it’s free to use YouTube!). Just as with how those Superbowl ads rapidly became a sort of “cult” entertainment on their own, viral videos have become the new stomping ground for a business to get word out. I think this is terrific news– the Internet is the great equalizer, isn’t it? If you have a funny enough video, you can quickly gain attention to your business or product. When I search for a review or an ad for a new product I’m interested in, I invariably find my way to YouTube, where there’s usually some mention of it, some with reviews or consumer test of the product. I saw this VistaPrint funny Tote Bag video, where two guys do some really funny tests with the tote bag that is sold by VistaPrint. Bwahaha! Maybe it was simply because I didn’t have my morning coffee… but the video made me laugh hilariously! Sheesh, I never thought of testing tote bags in that way, lol! There’s an offer at the end of the video to get your own tote bag for free, and to get creative with your own tests. I’ll have to think about that one! My kids could make their own funny tote bag video, put it up on YouTube… and see how videos so easily go viral?! LOL!

Videos for Your iPhone

Well, the very cool thing about the iPhone is it’s Inter-connectability. I think I would LOVE an iPhone, just for that purpose. (It’s the $300 price tag that makes me reconsider!). How about you? Have you got an iPhone? If so, check out this site for videos: Vuzu. The quality of the videos is much better than YouTube, and Vuzu is building a large collection of entertainment and music videos. Vuzu is fully viewable for desktop PCs, too. If you go to Vuzu, check out the “William Tell Slap Shot.” AMAZING! Vuzu costs nothing to use. It’s free to register and upload videos.
